Vintage 18 Shirley Temple Composition Doll. In Rare Tagged Cherry Dress (1935-36) with Box.

For your consideration is this family heirloom find. In original rare tagged dress known as the "Cherry Dress, " original onesie, socks, and shoes with an original box and photo of Shirley Temple herself. She is marked "SHIRLEY TEMPLE 18" on the back of both her neck and her back. Her dress is tagged, Genuine Shirley Temple Doll.

The tag is fragile and half is still attached while the other half has fallen off but is still with the doll. I will have the other half that fell off in a plastic zip lock bag with the doll. The dress is a cotton organdy flower print with lavender ribbon and bib collar. It originally should have 2 cherries hanging from the collar. This is a hard to find dress that is featured on page 54 of the book, "The Complete Guide to SHIRLEY TEMPLE Dolls and Collectibles" by Tonya Bervaldi-Camaratta.

It buttons up in the back with 2 white buttons. The dress has no tears, holes, nor stains that I could find.

The lavender themes itself around the dress from the ribbon to the thread that accents the scallops of the collar. The dress in NOT laundered and I saw no reason to touch it - I love it just as it is. She wears a one piece undergarment "onesie" of slip and pants made of cotton organdy trimmed in lace. The sweet onesie is in amazing condition with tears. Only found one faint hard to see discoloring where the leg joint sometimes catches the fabric.

There is a tiny pin hole in the back where a safety pin was used to close the onesie, but no other holes found. I tried to look carefully.

Her beautiful mohair wig is set with her original curls that have never been combed out with her original lavender hair ribbon that matches the ribbon in the dress. Her curls are a little flat in the back from lying on her back inside her box for many years. She thinks its time to stand up for a while so her back curls can liven up once again.

Her socks are unstained, have no holes, and fit her well. She wears her original snap shoes with good soles. One shoe has a broken snap. Since that shoe's strap was broken I took that shoe off to examine her toes but did not touch the other shoe to preserve it.

So she's pictured showing her composition with one shoe still on. I think the strap could be gently fixed with a small stitch or fabric glue, then I suggest leaving it on and not removing it. The composition of her face paint is beautiful and smooth except for a light crack under her right eye. Her facial coloring is some of the prettiest I've seen on Shirley dolls in a long while. Its very sharp and minty in its shading.

I found one line of crazing under her ear to her neck on the right side of her neck that I photographed for you. Her arms and legs have some light crazing but the composition of the torso looks much better and still has nice coloring. She has blushing in her hands and other areas.

I think she has her original cording. It is white with blue spackles.

She is able to stand but with care as she is a little loose. I have not restrung her. If you do not message me to request this, I will not. Instead I will leave her as she is with her original cording. Her box is covered in textured paper and is stamped "2018" and "Green" with 4.95 penciled on one end of the lid.

The lid is not pictured but will come with the box. The word "Green" makes me think it went with another Shirley in a Green dress possibly - many years ago. The lid of the box needs some tlc repair done so be careful with it when it arrives. Some of its pieces had come apart and were put back together.

The main box is a kind of fragile but I think it is fixable. This doll will be double boxed to protect both doll and original box. She will lay face down with marks for which side of the box should be up.

She will be positioned for non-movement with her body wrapped in ventilated tissue and biodegradable packing peanuts securely cushioning her in. Items may have flaws due to age.

I find many of my items at estate sales, downsizing sales, or similar marketplace situations. I try to note any obvious damage or flaws, but there may be flaws or damage not noticed in my inspection.
