See my other auctions for more great historic items! 18 1930's IDEAL Composition SHIRLEY TEMPLE Roller Skater Doll with original Mohair Wig. (reference pic only - not included with doll). Marked "SHIRLEY TEMPLE" on the back of the neck & "18" on the back center of the shoulders, it is from IDEAL's mold. The eternal dimpled smile, blue sleep eyes, rosy cheeks & soft blonde "curly top" mohair wig are so like the real child, that her personality radiates through the doll. She is a joyful little character - especially on her roller skates!

There is hardly any crazing on the body, & the face shows a barely visible surface crack about 1/4 long below the left eye. The brush eye lashes are quite well preserved, & we believe the eyes, which open & close smoothly, are glassene (may have been skillfully retouched - but look real as you can see in the photos). The tongue & teeth are also pristine. She wears a red with white polka-dots dress, complete with ruffle at the neck, & lace & ric-rac-trimmed yoke, ruffled sleeves with lace & white matching apron. The dress, skates, & socks are from the 1930's, the panties with red & chiffon ruffles are circa 1950.

The skates do role nicely, are made of white (repainted) oilcloth, with two small pieces of cardboard reinforcement at the heel & toe of one skate, but are now sturdy & ready for another 90 years of enjoyment! The body is sturdily strung & very poseable. It is charming that this Ideal line of Shirley Temple dolls really is a true portrait of Shirley as a child. A very clean & well-preserved doll.
