A nice example of a 1930's Shirley Temple doll made by Ideal Novelty & Toy Company, with "flirty eyes" that would open and shut, and a 6-piece body(strung together with elastic) sawdust-based, wood-pulp material (composition), that was later painted flesh toned. These dolls had hazel eyes with hair upper lashes, and painted eyebrows, lower lashes, lip paint, and nostrils. The wigs were made of mohair and styled in golden curls similar to Shirley's. The clothes were made to resemble Shirley's own clothes and the outfits of her movies (this blue & white dress has an Ideal Shirley Temple label). Marked SHIRLEY TEMPLE and IDEAL on the back of the head The resemblance to the real Shirley was uncanny in these dolls, and they have (and will always be) a collectors favorite.
Good overall condition, with some crazing and cracking of composition noticeable on the legs and arms. Minimal crazing on the face and head. The eyes still open and close. A great addition to your doll or Shirley Temple collection!
